THE FLATS – No. 17 Georgia Tech baseball used six timely hits and capitalized on three Georgia State errors to take the midweek series finale 7-2 on Tuesday night at the GSU Baseball Complex.
The Yellow Jackets (18-14) got rocksteady work from its pitching staff as well as freshman LHP Josiah Siegel worked his first career start, surrendering just one two-run homer in 3.0 innings while also punching out four. Keeping the game close, Tech then went to freshman RHP Dawson Brown (1-0) who recorded his first-career winning decision after pitching a scoreless inning.
RHP John Medich and RHP Chance Huff then slammed the door shut with a combined eight strikeouts with just two hits given up in 5.0 innings to close with Huff getting his first career save at Tech.
At the plate, Tech was able to plate four in the fifth inning to push out ahead thanks to walks, an RBI single by Stephen Reid and two runs plated via balks. With just a three-run lead in the eighth, Tres Gonzalez had some two-out magic, lining a 0-2 pitch up the middle to score two.
Reid and Gonzalez were two of Tech’s six hitters on the day, joined by Luke Waddell, Kevin Parada, Justyn-Henry Malloy, Jake DeLeo and Jake Holland’s RBI triple.
The Panthers (10-28) were led by Kalen Puckett, who finished 2-for-3, while LHP Pablo Barquero (0-1) received the loss allowing three earned runs on one hit and two walks.
After a lengthy road swing, Georgia Tech returns home to host four of the next five weekends, beginning with 17th-ranked Florida State on April 23-25. First pitches are set for 7:30 p.m., 4 p.m. and 1 p.m. with the series broadcast live on ACC Network Extra and WREK 91.1 FM.

- Jake Holland smashed his first career triple in his first at-bat;
- Georgia Tech drew eight walks on the night and one hit-by-pitch;
- Georgia Tech was 3-for-9 with runners in scoring position; 2-for-4 with runners on third and less than two outs; and 1-for-2 with bases loaded;
- Georgia Tech threw 62.4 percent strikes on the night (173 pitches, 108 strikes);
- Georgia Tech had three two-out RBI.
