Tech Set to Tango with Lipscomb in Big Dance

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech volleyball (13-4, 13-4 ACC) will open competition in the First Round of the 2020 NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship against ASUN champion Lipscomb (17-2, 11-1 ASUN) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET at the CHI Health Center Omaha Convention Center and Arena in Omaha, Neb. The winner of the match will go on to face No. 3 seed Minnesota in the Second Round on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET.

Storylines

• Georgia Tech will return to the NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship for the 10^th time in program history and first time since 2009 on the heels of a 13-4 (regular season and conference play) season.
• In nine appearances to date, the Jackets have advanced as far as the Elite Eight in 2003, also reaching the Sweet 16 the following year in 2004.
• Georgia Tech has had three Jackets win multiple awards following the regular season as junior outside hitter Mariana Brambilla and sophomore outside hitter Julia Bergmann have each garnered unanimous First Team All-ACC honors and AVCA East Coast All-Region team selections while junior setter Matti McKissock was named Second Team All-ACC and an ACVA East Coast All-Region Honorable Mention.
• Tech went 6-3 during the spring regular season with sweeps in five of its six victories after wrapping up the fall slate at an ACC-leading 7-1 overall and conference record.
• Georgia Tech won eight straight matches this season, including a stretch of five-straight sweeps over Florida State (twice), Wake Forest (twice) and Clemson. After sweeping NC State, Syracuse, Virginia Tech, Boston College and Virginia this spring, the Yellow Jackets have 10 total sweeps on the season.
• Dating back to 2019, Tech has won 31 of its last 36 matches.
• As a team, Georgia Tech currently leads the ACC and is ranked 11th in the nation in hitting percentage (0.290). Tech is also third in the ACC in kills per set (13.65).
• The Jackets currently rank second in the league in assists per set (12.58).
• Brambilla surpassed 1,000 career kills against Boston College (3/12). She is now up to 1,073 career kills.
• Brambilla ranks second in the ACC and 30th in the NCAA in kills per set (4.26).
• Bergmann currently leads the ACC in aces per set and is 18th in the NCAA averaging 0.53 per set. Bergmann is also second in the league and 32^nd in the country in points per set (4.81).

Series Notes

• Georgia Tech has won both contests played against Lipscomb in program history.
• The Yellow Jackets won a five-setter on the road in 2014 before claiming a 3-1 win at home a season ago.
