He tied for 22nd last weekend at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, but it was good enough for Matt Kuchar to move into the top position on the FedEx Cup points list this week, taking over for Xander Schauffle. Kuchar and Schauffle are the only two PGA Tour players to win twice so far in 2018-19, and both players have three top-10 finishes.
Winner of the Sony Open and the Mayakoba Golf Classic, Kuchar also has a tie for fourth at the Waste Management Phoenix Open on his resume this season. Kuchar’s top finish in FedEx Cup points in his 19-year career has been No. 2 in 2013. He has already earned nearly $1.2 million more than all of last season.
Roberto Castro and Cameron Tringale, playing at Pebble Beach after taking the previous week off, both tied for 53rd place. Anders Albertson, Chesson Hadley, Seth Reeves and Richy Werenski all missed the 54-hole cut.
Albertson, Kuchar, Reeves and Ollie Schniederjans, who did not play at the AT&T Pro-Am, are in the field for this week’s Genesis Open at famed Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
Web.com Tour: Rookie Vincent Whaley missed his first cut of the season at last weekend’s Panama Championship, but remains No. 8 in the points standings on the Web.com Tour. Nicholas Thompson tied for 53rd place, his third cut made in four tournaments this spring.
