Georgia Tech’s eight honorees are tied for the most in its 39 seasons in the ACC, matching the eight Yellow Jackets that were represented on the 2003 team.
Tech also had the second-most selections from any school on the 2018 all-ACC academic football team, behind only Duke (12).
Other notes include:
- three of Georgia Tech’s eight honorees had already earned bachelor’s degrees and were in graduate studies during the 2018 season – Johnson, Marshall and Rivera;
- three of Yellow Jackets’ eight honorees were also named first-team academic all-district (which marked the most academic all-district selections in program history) – Marshall, Rivera and Stewart;
- Stewart and Braun were both earned the recognition for the third time, becoming the Yellow Jackets’ first three-time honorees since Will Jackson (2010-12);
- Marshall earned the recognition for the second time;
- Swilling was one of only five redshirt freshmen among the 70 honorees;
- Wells was one of only four true freshmen among the 70 honorees.
Academic achievement has long been a staple of Georgia Tech football. The Yellow Jackets’ most recent NCAA Graduation Success Rate is 86 percent, nine percentage points above the average for NCAA Division I FBS programs, while its most recent NCAA Academic Progress Rate is 980, 12 points above the national FBS average.
