Georgia Tech will have eight former members of its illustrious golf program competing on the PGA Tour next season after 2014 graduate Seth Reeves locked up his 2018-19 privileges with his tie for fourth place last weekend in the second leg of the Web.com Finals.
Reeves, who finished 66th in regular-season earnings to secure his spot in the Finals, suddenly caught fire late in the season, first tying for fourth place at the Ellie Mae Classic and for 16th at the WinCo Foods Portland Open to close out the regular season. In the Finals, he tied for fifth place at the Nationwide Childen’s Hospital Open and then tied for fourth last weekend at the DAP Championship.
Over those 16 rounds, the lefty Reeves has collectively scored 42-under-par. He opened the Ellie Mae Classic with a 63 and finished at 265 (-15) and closed the WinCo Foods event with a 65 for a 276 total (-8). He posted a third-round 65 in the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship for a 275 (-9) total, and shot 70-67-67-66 last weekend for a 270 (-10) score.
“I played six weeks in a row and it’s been a complete grind,” Reeves told PGATour.com. “I played with a chip on my shoulder … I was just trying to keep my Web.com Tour card, and when my back was against the wall, I just came out and shot good scores. And I just kept it going.”
“My belief has grown in myself. Seeing Anders get to the TOUR, I know I can do it too, and I’m glad to be there with him.”
Reeves has secured his PGA Tour card because he is assured of finishing among the top 25 earners in the Web.com Finals, which has two events left to play after a break in the schedule this week. His accomplishment means three Tech alumni on the Web.com Tour this year, including Anders Albertson and Roberto Castro, who both finished among the top 25 in regular-season earnings, have graduated to the PGA Tour for 2018-19. They join holdovers Stewart Cink, Chesson Hadley, Matt Kuchar, Ollie Schniederjans and Richy Werenski.
Albertson, Reeves, Schniederjans and Werenski all started for the Yellow Jackets’ 2014 team that won seven tournaments and reached match play at the NCAA Championship (Reeves’ senior year at Georgia Tech).
