McCarty Heads to Zone Diving Championships in Search of NCAA Berth

ATLANTA – Georgia Tech sophomore All-ACC diver Paul McCarty will attempt to secure a spot in the 2002 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships with a strong performance this weekend at the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships held at the University of Kentucky’s Lancaster Aquatic Center.

The meet opens Friday at 10:00 a.m. with the women’s one-meter. McCarty is slated to compete in the men’s three-meter Friday at 2:30 p.m. and the men’s one-meter, which begins at 10:00 a.m. Saturday. The men’s platform is slated for 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Twelve men’s divers from this zone, which includes teams from the ACC, Big East and SEC, will advance to the NCAA Championships, which are slated for March 28-30 at the University of Georgia.

McCarty earned all-conference honors with a third-place finish in the one-meter event. He is Tech’s first All-ACC diver since 1996.
