THE FLATS – Bobby Dodd Stadium, the oldest on-campus stadium in NCAA Division I FBS, officially opens for its 110th season of Georgia Tech football on Saturday when the Yellow Jackets host Western Carolina. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
As it does every year, Georgia Tech athletics has worked throughout the offseason to implement changes for football games at Bobby Dodd Stadium that maximize the fan experience while honoring the traditions of Tech football and its venerable home.
What’s new at Bobby Dodd Stadium in 2022 includes:
THE RETURN OF YELLOW JACKET ALLEY
For the first time since 2019, Yellow Jacket Alley – Georgia Tech football’s pregame walk to Bobby Dodd Stadium – will return to its traditional path along Brittain Drive between 4th Street and the stadium. The Yellow Jackets will be dropped off approximately two hours prior to kickoff at the corner of 4th Street and Brittain Drive and follow the Ramblin’ Wreck, the Georgia Tech Marching Band and spirit squads through a tunnel of Tech fans that line both sides of the street and into Bobby Dodd. Fans are encouraged to begin lining Yellow Jacket Alley two hours and 15 minutes prior to kickoff and to cheer the Yellow Jackets as they enter Bobby Dodd Stadium every home gameday.
NEW WRECKFEST LOCATION
Wreckfest, Georgia Tech’s traditional fun-for-the-whole-family pregame party, moves to a new location in 2022, as it will be located on Bobby Dodd Way between Techwood Drive and Brittain Drive on the north side of Bobby Dodd Stadium, just steps away from its former location at Callaway Plaza. Wreckfest will still include many of the same activities that Tech fans of all ages have enjoyed for years, including music, inflatables and interactive games, face-painting, food vendors and more. Wreckfest begins three hours prior to kickoff each game day.
CALLAWAY PLAZA PREGAME SHOW
After cheering on the team as they walk down Yellow Jacket Alley, fans are encouraged to stick around the north end of Bobby Dodd Stadium for the new Callaway Plaza Pregame Show. The show begins with traditional performances by the Georgia Tech marching band, spirit groups and Buzz near Gate 7, followed by an all-new gameday preview show to be shown on the Callaway Plaza videoboard. Hosted by the Voice of the Yellow Jackets, Andy Demetra, the gameday preview show will break down that day’s on-field matchup and give fans a taste of what to expect once they enter Bobby Dodd Stadum. The Callaway Plaza Pregame Show will begin immediately following the conclusion of the team’s walk down Yellow Jacket Alley.
NEW INSIDE BOBBY DODD STADIUM
Section 131 Gathering Area
Located in the southeast corner of Bobby Dodd Stadium, the section 131 gathering area is a great place for fans to meet up for fellowship and fun with a view of the game. The area will include expanded concessions offerings, pub-style high-top tables and a great view of the field, giving fans an opportunity to meet up with friends without missing any of the action of the game.
Merchandise Loft
Located in the west festival area of Bobby Dodd Stadium, the Merchandise Loft provides fans with an expanded offering of Georgia Tech gear from the Georgia Tech Bookstore.
Burdell’s Beverage Company
Fans will have two additional opportunities in 2022 to purchase beverages – alcoholic and non-alcoholic – without standing in line at a traditional concessions stand with the creation of Burdell’s Beverage Company beverage-only portals. Burdell’s Beverage Company will have two locations – at section 112 on the north end of Bobby Dodd Stadium (the former location of the Georgia Tech Bookstore’s flagship apparel stand) and at section 126, outside of the club lounge on the east side of the stadium.
