Georgia Tech Quotes
Head Coach Bryan Shelton

“It was a tough match. I give Ole Miss a lot of credit. Whenever we seemed to get our nose out in front a little bit, they just didn’t go away. Doubles was indicative of that. We had a lot of match points in No. 3 doubles, and we just couldn’t quite close the door anywhere and get on the board. It was just one of those days where we had some opportunities, but we weren’t able to capitalize on them.

“You’ve got to give Ole Miss a lot of credit. They’re a quality team, and they stayed composed throughout the whole day, and they deserved the win. They’re upset. Our goal certainly wasn’t to lose here at home in this round. We certainly weren’t overlooking Ole Miss. We know they’re a quality team, and we knew this was going to be a really tough match for us. But we’re disappointed, just disappointed that we’re not advancing and moving forward, because our goal was to win a national championship, but in order to do that, you’ve got to hold serve at home, and we weren’t able to do that today.

“Today, we didn’t do as good a job of finishing at the net. I think we were a little hesitant to pull the trigger and move forward and make our plays. That’s certainly not what we want to be doing out there is just kind of waiting for the opportunities. We’ve got to seize them. We’ll learn from this. We’re a young team.”

Mississippi Quotes
Head Coach Mark Beyers

“These were two great teams. You saw that doubles. I think that proved to be the difference in the match. It was such a big momentum shift in that moment and time. I think everyone of the fans really enjoyed the match. It was just hard-nosed tennis and we just got a little luckier in the doubles matches. Winning the point probably gave our girls a little more motivation going forward in singles and we were able to come away with the win.”

On how the final score was not indicative of the actual match “Every single match was very competitive. In the end, people are going to look at the score and see it was 4-0 but every one that was here knows how the match really played out. These are two great teams. Georgia Tech is very classy and well coached. It is just fun when you are part of something this and I believe the fans got a real trip with a great college tennis match.”

Karen Nijssen
On clinching the match
“I just tried to focus on my attitude and stay positive. I focused on my body language and just tried to hit a lot of good balls against her. It was also good to see know one was really losing and hanging in their matches, so it gave me a lot of confidence out there.”
