National Champions Honored at Georgia Capitol

March 19, 2008

ATLANTA – Georgia Tech’s women’s tennis team was honored by both houses of the Georgia Legislature Wednesday morning at the state capitol, recognizing the team for their special achievements during the 2007 season.

The Yellow Jackets captured the National Team Indoor Championship and third-consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference title during the 2007 season before giving Georgia Tech its first NCAA team championship – in any sport – when they won the NCAA Women’s Tennis title in May.

The team won 21-straight matches to close out the 2007 season and visited the White House and with President Georgia W. Bush, along with several other national champions, over the summer.

Head coach Bryan Shelton, the 2007 USTA National Coach of the Year, and the rest of the 2007 team received an official proclamation during the recognition at the state capitol. Click Here to read the full proclamation.
