Morris Out with Broken Right Foot

Jan. 31, 2014

THE FLATS – Jason Morris, a senior on Georgia Tech’s basketball team, has a broken right foot sustained in Wednesday night’s game against North Carolina and will have surgery on the foot Monday, head coach Brian Gregory said Friday.

The 6-5 swingman from Augusta, Ga., suffered the injury early in Wednesday night’s game and left after playing just four minutes. X-rays revealed a break of the fifth metatarsal, and his return this season is doubtful.

“This is very unfortunate, almost beyond description,” said Gregory about his oft-injured senior. “I’ve never seen anything like it. He played four minutes Wednesday and had two rebounds, which is an area we needed help in, and he had embraced that. He got hurt making a great defensive play, and we made a three-point play on the other end. He wants to do everything he can to get back, but it’s going to be difficult.”

Morris has played in just nine games for Tech this season, starting four, and averaging 2.2 points and 2.4 rebounds. He missed the first 10 games of the season after pre-season surgery to repair a stress fracture in his left foot, then missed two ACC games in January after suffering a concussion in an automobile accident. Last season, he missed 10 games with plantar fasciitis in his left foot.
