ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team extended its win streak to four by coming from behind in the singles portion of the match to claim a 4-3 win over Florida State on Friday afternoon at the Bill Moore Tennis Center. Stephen Moros’ win at No. 6 singles sealed the victory for the Jackets.

The Yellow Jackets (13-8, 5-3 ACC) fell behind early in the match by dropping the doubles point to the Seminoles (12-8, 4-3 ACC), as FSU won a pair of matches in tiebreakers. Tech’s lone doubles win came at the No. 1 spot, as Roger Anderson and David Wright defeated Florida State’s tandem of Xavier Luscan and Chip Webb by an 8-3 count. The ‘Noles then rallied to win the next two doubles matches in tiebreakers by matching scores of 9-8. Mat Cloer and Jarrod Owen of FSU defeated the Jackets’ West Nott and Scott Schnugg by a 9-8 score, winning a dramatic tiebreaker by an 11-9 score. The Seminoles’ team of Gustav Bucht and Romain Jurd downed Tech’s Joao Menano and Fabio Campos by a 9-8 (2) score.

In singles action, the match remained tight and was not decided until the No. 6 singles match. The match was even at a set apiece with Anderson winning the first set 7-5 and Luscan the second by a matching 7-5 score.

Sophomore Joao Menano pulled the Jackets to within 3-2 with a win at No. 4 over Chip Webb in an impressive straight-set, 6-2, 6-0 decision. West Nott kept the Tech roll going at No. 5, was he battled to defeat FSU’s Gustav Bucht in straight sets, 7-6 (5), 6-4. Nott rallied from being down 5-2 in the tiebreaker to win the first set and then broke Bucht’s serve to end the match in the second.

With the match even at 3-3, Moros fell behind the Seminoles’ Jeff Scarella by dropping the first set by a 6-4 score. He then rallied to win the next two sets, holding serve in the second before winning a tiebreaker 7-3 and then breaking Scarella’s serve twice in the third set en route to a 6-1 win and the 4-6, 7-6 (3), 6-1 victory.
