Miller, North and Gvelesiani Named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week

ATLANTA – Kristi Miller, David North and George Gvelesiani were named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, October 23, 2006.

Miller, a junior from Marysville, Mich., captured her second consecutive Wilson/ITA Women’s South Region Singles Title by defeating her freshman teammate Kirsten Flower, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (4), in the final. She won al her matches in straight sets. Miller also teamed with senior Alison Silverio to advance to the doubles semifinals.

North, a junior from Durban, South Africa, teamed with Gvelesiani, a junior from Norcross, Ga., to reach the doubles final at the Wilson/ITA Men’s Mideast Indoor Regional Championship. The Jacket tandem held a 7-4 lead over their No. 3 seed opponent Alex Cojanu and Colin O’Brien of William & Mary, but couldn’t hold on losing the title match 9-8(0).This tournament marked the first time the duo has paired in a doubles competition.
