ATLANTA – Sophomore Jerome Miller tallied a pair of top-three finishes to lead Georgia Tech at the Yellow Jacket Invitational on Saturday at the George C. Griffin Track.
Miller, a native of Stafford, Va., posted a NCAA Region qualifying standard of 6 feet, 10 ¾ inches, in the men’s high jump to finish first for Tech. Freshman Juan Cave finished second with a mark of 6 feet, 8 ¾ inches.
Senior Nico Shaner tallied a NCAA Region and personal-best mark of 206 feet, 11 inches, in the men’s javelin throw to finish second. Senior Eric Massey finished third in the hammer throw with a NCAA and personal-record mark of 198 feet, 7 inches.
Miller tallied a third-place finish in the men’s triple jump with a personal-best leap of 49 feet, 1 ¾ inches. Freshman Nigel Orr finished fourth with a season-best mark of 49 feet, 1 inch.
Redshirt freshman Andy Powlen finished sixth for Tech in the men’s shot put with a NCAA Region mark of 55 feet, 11 ¾ inches.
Freshman E.C. Gibbs finished seventh in the men’s 800m with a time of 1:53.84.
The men’s 4x400m relay team of Orr, Matt DiDia, Brandon Duckett and Derek Hoye clocked a season-best time of 3:14.32 to finish in sixth place.
The Yellow Jackets will travel to Athens for the Spec Towns Invitational next Saturday, April 8.
