Miller Leads Tech at South Region Championships

Tuscaloosa, Ala. – Number seven seed Kristi Miller advanced to the Round of 32 on Friday at the ITA South Regional Championship in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The freshman will face Katarina Palenikova in Saturday action.

Miller, a native of Marysville, Mich., started off the morning defeating Tarryn Rudman of Mississippi State in straight sets. In afternoon action, Miller trounced Georgia State’s Annamaria Forgacs. Miller will face South Alabama’s Katarina Palenikova in the Round of 32 on Saturday.

In other action, Kelly Anderson, the number nine seed, started the day winning in straight sets. In later action, Anderson fell in three sets. Eleventh seed Lyndsay Shosho fell in three sets to Melissa Day of Alabama.

Also competing for the Yellow Jackets were senior Dasha Potapova, junior Kacie Anson, and sophomores Lindsey Stauss, and Alison Silverio. Potapova defeated Lindsay Deason of Florida State in straight sets, before falling to the third seed Shadisha Robinson of South Alabama. Staci Stevens, the thirteenth seed, knocked off Kaci Anson in straight sets. Stauss fell in early action in straight sets. Silverio took out Fabiana Taverna of South Florida in straight sets before falling to number two seed Robin Stephenson of Alabama.

In doubles action, Miller and Silverio took an 8-6 victory over Alabama’s McElveen and Minor. The duo will compete on Saturday against Palenikova and Rupic of South Alabama. Stauss and Ester van Londen will also compete in doubles action on Saturday after receiving a bye in the first round. Anderson and Shosho fell to Florida State’s Clarke and Deason, while Anson and Potapova faltered against Carlotti and Tomatis of Ole Miss.
