The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team improved to 4-0 on the season with a 7-0 win over Georgia State Thursday afternoon. With the win the Yellow Jackets improve to 4-0 on the year while the Panthers fall to 1-2.
The Yellow Jackets opened the match sweeping the doubles point as Scott Schnugg and Marko Rajevac defeated Miha Lisac and Jaime Rodriguez, 8-2, at No. 1 doubles, Jason Pieters and Jose Luis Muguruza paired to beat Albano Franco and Matija Sulin, 8-6, at No. 2 and Joao Menano and Trevor McLeod defeated Nicolas Lupica and Clarence Boyd, 8-3 at the No. 3 position.
Tech began singles play with a win at No. 3 from West Nott, defeating Lisac by the scores 6-1, 6-2. Muguruza followed with a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 2 over Rodriguez and then Schnugg clinched the match for the Jackets with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Franco at No. 1. In the other three flights, Rajevac defeated Sulin at the No. 4 position, 6-1, 6-3, Menano beat Boyd 6-2, 7-5 at No. 5 and Zachary Rath swept Daniel Baloq, 6-2, 6-1at the No. 6 flight.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action Monday when they host Middle Tennessee State at 2:30 p.m. at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.
