Men's Tennis Knocks Off South Carolina, 4-3

ATLANTA (Feb. 24) — The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team won its third match in a row, knocking off the South Carolina Gamecocks, 4-3, Saturday afternoon at Bill Moore Tennis Center.

After the Yellow Jackets and Gamecocks split singles — winning three sets apiece — Georgia Tech took the first two doubles matches to claim the victory.

Tech senior Romain Coirault and freshman Joao Menano earned a quick 8-2 victory over Seth Rose and Guillaume Legat at No. 2 doubles. Sophomores Roger Anderson and David Wright then defeated David Nelson and Marcus Westman at No. 1 doubles to secure the win.

In singles play, Anderson knocked off No. 63 Legat, 6-1, 3-6, 6-0 at No. 2. In the No. 5 singles match, freshman Alex Navinkov defeated Westman, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3. Menano dominated Nask Sherazi, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 6 singles to give the Yellow Jackets their first point of the day. Coirault, playing at No. 1 singles for the first time this year, fought off four match points by Rose before falling in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 4-6.

The Yellow Jackets improved to 5-2 with the win and host eighth-ranked Georgia next Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
