THE FLATS – In just his fifth start of his career, RHP Logan McGuire turned in a fine day, powering Georgia Tech baseball to its first series win with a 5-4 victory on Saturday afternoon at Mac Nease Baseball Park at Russ Chandler Stadium.
McGuire (1-0) went five innings and surrendering four hits and two runs (both solo homers), while striking out six and walking none to move the Yellow Jackets to 2-0.
Tech trailed for just two half innings before putting up a five spot, thanks to a solo homer from Jake DeLeo and a two-run bomb from Stephen Reid. Jack Rubenstein also finished 2-for-3 as the designated hitter, driving in one as well.
On the mound, RHP Ben King turned in 2.0 innings of no-hit, two-strikeout work after a year off recovering from injury. LHP Camron Hill then turned in another scoreless inning with a strikeout.
The RedHawks (0-2) refused to go away however, scratching across two runs in the top of the ninth due to defensive miscues. But veteran LHP Joseph Mannelly came in and recorded the final two outs for his first save of the season.
Offensively, Miami was led by Ryland Zaborowski, who went 2-for-4 with a solo home run. Starter RHP Zach Maxey (0-1) received the loss, allowing five runs on five hits with three walks in 2.0 innings.
Georgia Tech will look to complete the sweep against Miami (Ohio) on Sunday, Feb. 19. First pitch is schedule for 1 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra.
