McDaniel & Martin Named to All-ACC Teams

ACC Release

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Tech men’s tennis redshirt freshmen Marcus McDaniel and Andres Martin collected 2021 Atlantic Coast Conference all-conference honors as announced by the league office on Thursday. McDaniel was named to the first team, while Martin earned second-team recognition. The honors were determined by a vote of the league’s head coaches.

McDaniel sported a 15-6 dual match singles record this season, going 8-4 in ACC singles play as well. He went 10-6 from position No. 1, a spot he held for the majority of the season. A 7-4 singles record versus nationally ranked opponents helped put McDaniel among the conference’s best this year. He is currently ranked as the No. 25 singles player in the latest ITA Rankings, and was rated as high as No. 20 towards the end of the regular season.

Overall Martin obtained the most singles wins for Tech this year going 16-8. In dual match singles he posted a 14-7 record, including a 7-5 showing in the ACC. Martin held down court two throughout the year, going 11-5 at that position. He also went 3-3 against nationally ranked players. The most recent ITA Singles Rankings placed Martin at No. 50, giving the Jackets a pair of top-50 players.

McDaniel/Martin were rated as the No. 18 doubles pairing in the country by the ITA this week, owning a 5-2 record together. Martin had a team-high 17-4 overall doubles record this year, with a 14-4 dual match record and 6-2 ACC record. The pair was instrumental in helping Tech achieve an 89-54 (.622) overall singles record during the 2021 campaign.
