Matteson Helps Lead East Team to a Win in East-West All-Star Matches

May 27, 2002

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Georgia Tech junior golfer Troy Matteson won his match and in the process helped lead the East Team to a 44-37 win over the West in the annual East-West All-Star Matches in Columbus, Ohio. The matches were held at Ohio State’s Scarlet Course, the site of this weekend’s NCAA Championship.

Matteson, currently the nation’s seventh-ranked player, defeated Tulsa’s David Inglis by a score of 2.5-0.5 and teamed with Purdue’s Lee Williamson to defeat Inglis and John Klauk of Texas by a 3-0 score in the team match.

The event featured one player from each of the teams at the NCAA Championship playing both a head-to-head match and a team match with a partner from their team, with the team matches figuring into the overall score for the East and West teams.

Matteson will join his Yellow Jacket teammates this weekend as top-ranked Tech looks to improve on a fourth-place finish from a year ago and capture the school’s first national title.
