ATLANTA – This weekend, Brandon Makinson will represent Georgia Tech at the NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships. The sophomore diver will be the lone Yellow Jacket competitor at the meet, held at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis.
The 1-meter dive will begin on Thursday, March 24 at 2 p.m. The prelims will kick off the day to be followed by the consolation and then the finals. The same schedule is set for the remaining days but Friday, March 25th will see the 3-meter springboard and the platform will be exhibited on Saturday, March 26th beginning at 1:30 p.m.
Makinson earned his spot in the meet with an eighth place finish in the Zone B Diving Championships held at the University of Georgia during the weekend of March 11-13.
Over the course of the weekend at Zones, Makinson took 11th place in the 1-meter dive with a score of 303.90 in the prelims and an overall score of 630.40. Makinson’s success continued into the 3-meter dive where after registering an eighth place, 361.30 showing in the prelims, Makinson improved to fifth place during the finals where he totaled 743.00 total points.
In the platform dive, Makinson eked out a 20th place showing tallying just 239.10 points, but it was enough to push him into eighth place over the course of the weekend and into the NCAA Championships.
