Lemons and Mitchell Named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week

ATLANTA – James Lemons II and Janie Mitchell were named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, January 29, 2007.

Lemons, a senior from Atlanta, Ga., tied for third in the men’s long jump, landing at 23 feet, 2 ½ inches at the Diet Pepsi Invitational this weekend. He finished 15th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.51. Lemons also ran the 55-meter dash, crossing the line in 6.69 seconds. Lemons’ currently sits atop the Atlantic Coast Conference rankings in the long jump (fourth) and triple jump (second).

Mitchell, a junior from Jackson, Miss., led the Jackets to their second ACC road win of the season, 58-45 over Wake Forest, with her game-high 18 points Sunday. She also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds in 38 minutes of play. Mitchell suffered an MCL sprain in the Jan. 4 win over Winston-Salem State and was sidelined for four games with Sunday’s road contest being her first start in six games. Mitchell scored nine points off the bench in Tech’s 60-49 victory over Boston College. She leads the team in rebounding averaging 6.3 RPG and is third on the team in scoring with 13.1 PPG.
