SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Carol Lee dominated her quarterfinal match on Friday, cruising to a straight-set victory at the ITA National Fall Championships to secure a spot in the semifinals. The fall finale is being played at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif.
Singles
It took just over an hour for Lee to closeout her quarterfinal match on Friday against Virginia’s No. 56 Elaine Chervinsky. Lee dropped her first service game but quickly moved back on serve at 2-2 in the opening set. The Yellow Jacket then rattled off four-straight games to take the first set, 6-2.
With Lee holding a 2-1 lead in the second set, the Atlantic Coast Conference foes remained on serve at 2-all. Lee held serve to take a 3-2 lead and went up a break for a 4-2 advantage. The Jacket carried momentum, extending her streak to four games to clinch the match, 6-2, 6-2.
Lee will face her third ACC foe of the tournament on Saturday, taking on North Carolina’s No. 21 and top-seeded Fiona Crawley in the semifinals.

Competitive Drive Initiative
In a unified endeavor, Georgia Tech, the Georgia Tech Foundation, Georgia Tech athletics and the Alexander-Tharpe Fund have come together to accelerate funding for student-athlete scholarships with the launch of the Competitive Drive Initiative. The initiative kicks off with the Accelerate GT Match Program, where any new gift to the A-T Fund’s Athletic Scholarship Fund made through Dec. 31 will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Georgia Tech Foundation, up to $2.5 million. Should Accelerate GT reach its $2.5 million fundraising goal, the matching gift would result in a $5 million impact for Georgia Tech athletics.
