THE FLATS – Georgia Tech swimmers Andrew Kosic and Mark Sarman each qualified for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials during Sunday’s long course time trial at the GT Aquatic Center.

Swimmers representing Georgia Tech, Duke, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech competed in Sunday’s time trial.

Kosic, who set four individual school records at the 2015 ACC Men’s Swimming Championship, posted a time of 22.71 in the 50 freestyle (Olympic standard: 23.29).

In the final event of the time trials, Sarman swam in a time of 54.61 in the 100 butterfly, besting the Olympic standard by 18 one-hundredths of a second (54.79).

“Sunday was definitely worth it,” head coach Courtney Shealy Hart said. “It helped all the teams competing (Sunday), including us. It’s always nice to be able to host something like this in a fast people and get some swimmers representing the United States.”

The 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for swimming are slated for June 26-July 3, 2016, at CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Neb.

Georgia Tech will host one final competition – the two-day Yellow Jacket Last Chance Meet – March 7-8 at the GT Aquatic Center. The competition gives swimmers one more opportunity to qualify for the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Championships.
