Georgia Tech senior defensive end Jeremiah Attaochu joined elite Yellow Jacket company Tuesday when he was named third-team All-American by both The Associated Press and CBS Sports.
Attaochu was also named honorable mention All-American Tuesday by SI.com. Previously, the Washington (DC) product earned first-team All-ACC honors by the league’s coaches.
After spending two seasons as an outside linebacker in the 3-4 scheme, Attaochu moved to defensive end in 2013 in defensive coordinator Ted Roof’s 4-3.
Attaochu enters the Dec. 30th Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl tied with former Yellow Jacket Greg Gathers for the most career sacks (31.0) in school history.
Attaochu is the eighth player under sixth-year head coach Paul Johnson to earn All-American honors. He is the third defensive end under Johnson — joining Derrick Morgan and Michael Johnson — to be named All-American.

The 31.0 career sacks by Attaochu leads all active players inthe NCAA and ranks fifth on the ACC’s career lists. Attaochu hasmore sacks in his career than former ACC standouts Julius Peppers(30.5), Calvin Pace (29.0) and Mario Williams (25.5). Attaochu’sfour sacks against Georgia (Nov. 30) were the third-mostsingle-game sacks in Tech history. Although not an officialcategory, Attaochu has more career sack yards (223) than any playerin Tech history. Attaochu’s 43.0 career tackles-for-loss are thesixth-most in Tech history. The senior is on a late-season sacksurge, collecting 10 over the last five games, after just one overthe first four games.
