Box Score (.pdf)

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – In a game full of offensive highlights, Georgia Tech baseball’s bats shined as it outlasted North Carolina with a 15-12 victory on Friday night at Boshamer Stadium.

The Yellow Jackets (22-13, 8-8 ACC) homered a whopping four times, including Kevin Parada’s fourth multi-homer game of the season. Andrew Jenkins and Drew Compton also homered on the night in the wild affair.

Jenkins led the offense with a 4-for-6, three-RBI night, falling a double shy of the cycle. Parada would finish with four RBI, while Compton drove in three runs. Tim Borden II was hot from the get-go, hitting twice with a double for two RBI. Chandler Simpson and Tres Gonzalez also doubled on the night, driving in a run apiece.

On the mound, Georgia Tech’s bullpen out-pitched the Tar Heels’ (21-13, 7-9 ACC). RHP Zach Maxwell (3-0) entered in the sixth and pitched a gutsy 3.0 innings on 76 pitches, punching out five. His two runs allowed came on a bloop base hit off the third-base bag. LHP Joseph Mannelly and RHP Dawson Brown then slammed the door with 0.2 combined innings pitched with Brown getting his fourth save of the season.

UNC was led by Mac Horvath, who finished 4-for-5 with two doubles and a home run. The Tar Heels used eight pitchers on the night with RHP Kyle Mott (6-2) receiving the loss, allowing two earned runs (three total) on four hits in 1.2 innings pitched in relief.

Georgia Tech returns for Game 2 against North Carolina on Saturday, April 16. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra and WREK 91.1 FM.
