Jackets Take Down No. 21 NC State

Final Results

THE FLATS — The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team (9-9, 4-5) defeated No. 21 NC State, 4-0 on Friday afternoon at the Ken Byers Tennis Center.

The Jackets got things started by winning the doubles point with victories from Carlos Divar/Phillip Gresk and Pablo Schelcher/Joseph Gandolfo.

Schelcher/Gandolfo defeated Tadas Babelis/Georgiy Malyshev, 6-4 while Divar/Gresk topped No. 47 Alexis Galarneau/Michael Ogden, 7-6 (7) to clinch the doubles point.

With the Jackets leading 1-0 heading into singles they needed just three wins to clinch the match.

In singles, Cole Gromley picked up a win against Malyshev, 6-4, 6-1 and No. 62 Divar bested No. 22 Galarneau, 7-6 (7), 7-5.

Schelcher defeated Robert Turzak, 6-4 7-6 (7) to clinch the 4-0 sweep for the Jackets.

Andrew Li, Gresk, and Brandon Freestone’s matches were all left unfinished after Schelcher took down Turzak.

The Jackets will be back on Sunday, April 7th when they host Louisville at the Ken Byers Tennis Center to celebrate seniors Li and  Gresk.
