MIAMI – Georgia Tech baseball recorded 27 hits in the doubleheader against No. 17 Miami (Fla.) to split the final day of the series, falling 9-7 in the first game and winning 9-5 in the finale on Sunday afternoon at Mark Light Field.

Game 1: Georgia Tech 7, No. 17 Miami 9

The Yellow Jackets (22-18, 8-13 ACC) put on a valiant effort in the final three innings, scoring five runs to pull within two, but was unable to complete the comeback, falling 9-7 on the day.

Tech turned to RHP Jackson Finley (1-4) for his first start after missing last week with an injury. He went just 2.0 innings, allowing three runs on three hits with four walks. RHP Ben King then punched out six in 3.0 innings, but surrendered a three-run home run in the fifth.

LHP Josiah Siegel then allowed one earned run in 0.2 innings before LHP Dalton Smith and RHP Jackson Vaughan combined for 2.1 shutout innings to close.

At the plate, the Jackets amassed 14 hits and scored five two-out runs, but were held to just two runs until the seventh. They were led by Angelo Dispigna and Jake DeLeo, who both recorded three hits with DeLeo doubling twice. Stephen Reid and John Giesler both finished with two RBI, doubling a combined three times on the day. Finley also drove in a run on his lone hit of the day.

Game 2: Georgia Tech 9, No. 17 Miami 5 (6 inn.)

After finishing the first game on Sunday hot at the plate, the offensive momentum carried into the second game as Tech jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. The Jackets refused to yield as the 17th-ranked Hurricanes (25-15, 12-9 ACC) tried to claw back.

Angelo Dispigna led with three hits and a whopping five RBI on the day to spark the effort. Kristian Campbell mashed his third home run of the season to highlight his three-hit day, while Jake DeLeo got back on track in a big way, finishing 3-for-4 as well. DeLeo also stole two bases.

John Giesler hit his second home run of the season, a two-run blast, to finish 2-for-4, while Stephen Reid drove in a run and made a terrific catch in right field to keep Miami at bay.

On the mound, Tech needed just two pitchers in the six-inning game (due to travel curfew). RHP Terry Busse made his second start of the season, going 3.1 innings and having four runs cross on four hits – none of which for extra bases. RHP Dawson Brown (2-2) then made his welcomed return to the mound, allowing just one run on three hits over 2.2 innings to close in his first appearance since April 6.

Georgia Tech returns home for an seven-game homestand that begins on Tuesday, April 25 against Mercer. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra.
