THE FLATS – A Drew Compton two-RBI single in the fourth inning broke the game open as an infield error allowed the go-ahead run and Georgia Tech baseball never looked back as it won the game and the series over No. 3 Miami, 7-5, on Saturday afternoon at Mac Nease Baseball Park at Russ Chandler Stadium.

The Yellow Jackets (27-17, 12-11 ACC) once again were buoyed by its pitching staff as true freshman RHP Logan McGuire (3-2) entered in relief in the third and pitched 3.1 innings, giving up just two runs over two hits and striking out four to zero walked. The bullpen continued to lock things down with a clean inning from LHP Sam Crawford before RHP Dawson Brown and RHP Zach Maxwell combined for the final 2.0 innings on their second-straight day of work.

Maxwell, pitching 1.1 no-hit innings with two strikeouts, picked up his third save of the season and second of the weekend.

At the plate, Tech mashed 13 hits on the day, including a healthy .462 average with two outs and .333 with runners on. Chandler Simpson led the way with his third four-hit day of the year, while Tim Borden II and Tres Gonzalez had two hits. Gonzalez reached base in all five plate appearances, also drawing three walks as well. Colin Hall also drove in a run.

Kevin Parada continued his hot streak, hitting a home run in his fourth-consecutive game. He now has 23 for the season, tying him for third all-time in Georgia Tech’s single-season history.

Miami was led by Maxwell Romero, Jr., who blasted two home runs. RHP Karson Ligon (5-3) received the loss, surrendering six runs (five earned) on seven hits in 3.2 innings.

Georgia Tech will conclude its series against Miami on Sunday, May 1 for Senior Day. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. and will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra and WREK 91.1 FM.
