ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team (5-1) will host South Carolina Upstate (3-5) on Thursday, Dec. 6. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET at Alexander Memorial Coliseum.
Richard Musterer and Kurt Hoyt will call all the action on WREK radio (91.1 FM/www.wrek.org), Georgia Tech women’s basketball’s flagship station.
The Yellow Jackets will meet USC Upstate in the first official meeting between the two schools. Last season, Tech defeated the Spartans 90-46 in an exhibition game in Atlanta. Six Jackets scored in double figures against the former Division II program and newest member of the Atlantic Sun Conference. Tech is 42-18 all-time against A-Sun opponents.
“Upstate has played a very competitive schedule and we expect a battle,” head coach MaChelle Joseph said. “However, we look forward to being back home on Thursday night.”
Tech dropped its first game of the season, 71-64, to in-state rival Georgia last Sunday for its first defeat of the season. The Spartans are coming off a road win against the College of Charleston on Monday.
“I am very proud of how our players have responded to the game against Georgia,” Joseph said. `We have taken that experience and have become a better basketball team. Our confidence is very high because we believe we lost a game we should have won. These kids have refocused and understand the importance of the next three games.”
Tech’s Chioma Nnamaka comes into the game as the leading scorer in the Atlantic Coast Conference, averaging 19.7 points per game. Jacqua Williams leads the conference in steals per game with 3.6.
