Jackets Finish Out Time At Georgia Tech Invitational

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field teams set many personal bests at the Georgia Tech Invitational this past weekend. The meet was highlighted by Jonathan Gardner’s triple jump, which smashed his previous outdoor personal best by over a meter.

Gardner’s leap ranks 24th in the country this season and 12th in the east region and solidifies him a spot in the NCAA East Regionals to be held from Thursday May 24-Saturday May 26 in Jacksonville, Fla.

Also setting a personal record on the day is Mykhail Chambers who crossed the seven foot mark in the high jump with a height of 2.14m (7-0.25) which also ranks 45th nationally and 24th in the East Region.

Julienne McKee and Jhanelle McLeod took home fourth and fifth place in the triple jump with leaps of 12.88m (42-3.25) and 12.70m (41-8) respectively while Patrick Barron finished 2nd in the 5,000m run with a time of 14:46.79.

Also netting top-10 finishes were Jeremy Greenwald and Joseph Stowe in the 1,500m run. Greenwald took home fourth place with a time of 3:48.57 while Stowe finished 6th in 3:50.17. Mary Kate DuBard and Katie Townsend finished 4th and 6th on the women’s side in the 5,000m run. DuBard clocked in at 17:18.08 while Townsend finished in 17:23.91.

In the sprints, Stephanie Kalu earned a spot in the 100m dash finals finishing in eighth place with a time of 11.81 seconds.

Some of the Yellow Jackets will be back in action at the NCAA East Regionals hosted by the University of North Florida in Jacksonville from May 24-26.
