The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team (21-8, 7-7 ACC) has earned the No. 5 seed in the upcoming 2008 Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament, which will begin Thursday, March 6, at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, N.C.
The Yellow Jackets will meet No. 12 seeded Miami in the first round of the tournament for the fourth straight season Thursday at 11 a.m. The two ACC designated rivals will also meet on the hardwood for the third time this season and the ninth time in the past three seasons.
The Jackets split their regular season series with the Hurricanes. Tech defeated Miami, 68-65, on a last second shot by Alex Montgomery at Alexander Memorial Coliseum on Jan. 13. The Hurricanes got back at Tech with a buzzer-beating three-pointer of their own to beat the Jackets, 54-52, in Miami on Feb. 7.
The 31st Annual ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament is set to tip-off at approximately 11 a.m. ET on Thursday, March 6 and will conclude with a 1 p.m. championship contest on Sunday, March 9. The title game as well as the semifinals showings will be broadcast by Fox Sports Net (FSN), while the 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 6, and Friday, March 7 will be televised on the league’s regional package (RSN).
