COLUMBUS, Ga. – Sophomore Tiffany Johnson (2-1) came into the game in relief and retired the first nine batters she faced, striking out 10 in the game and allowed just one hit, while junior Brittany Barnes smacked a three-run home run to lead Georgia Tech (10-1) over DePaul (5-3), 8-3, on Friday night at the NFCA Leadoff Classic.

With the win, the Yellow Jackets push their winning streak to eight and have homered in all 11 games so far this season. Junior Aileen Morales drove in the game-winning run with a triple, finishing 2-for-4. Junior Savannah Brown was a perfect 2-for-2, with a double and RBI.

Senior Caitlin Lever continued to swing a hot bat in the bottom of the first inning as she singled up the middle for her sixth consecutive hit in as many at bats to score sophomore Jennifer Yee from second base. Brown then doubled to left-center field to score a second run in the inning as the Jackets led 2-0.

The Blue Demons tied the game in the top of the second inning with two runs on no hits, courtesy of two Yellow Jacket errors. DU’s Kate Sheaks hit a sacrifice fly to the fence in left field to plate the first run and Sandy Vojik drove in the second run as the game moved to the bottom of the second tied at 2-2.

DePaul’s Marcy Wilus led off the top of the third inning with a solo home run to center field to bring the Blue Deamons within one, 4-3.

Barnes gave the Yellow Jackets some breathing room in the bottom of the fifth inning with a three-run blast to left field, her team leading sixth home run of the season, to push the Tech advantage to four runs, 7-3.

The Rambling Wreck tacked on another run in the bottom of the sixth inning as sophomore Whitney Haller singled through the left side to plate Morales with two outs as the Jackets took a five-run lead into the seventh, 8-3.

Tech scored eight runs, on seven hits and had two errors, while DePaul scored three runs, on two hits and committed one error.
