GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Tech wrapped up day one of the ACC Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships on Wednesday afternoon at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. The men’s diving championship also saw the Jackets take a top-10 finish.
Tech women finished with 87 points in the first day, currently 11th overall.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action for day two of the ACC Championships on Thursday, Feb. 15, beginning with prelims at 10 a.m.
Women’s Highlights
The women began in the 200 medley relay, where Megan Young , Florina Ilie, Laura Branton and Kaitlin Kitchens turned in a season-best time of 1:39.07 to finish ninth overall – first in their heat.
In the 800 free relay, the Jackets’ team of Iris Wang, Emily Ilgenfritz, Celine Nugent and Kitchens finished seventh with a season-best time of 7:09.06. Wang’s first leg of the heat (1:45.76) was just 0.09 seconds off her own 200 free school record set earlier this season.
In the 1-meter diving prelims, Carly Doi finished 24th with a total score of 229.85, while Paige Gohr finished 38th with a score of 164.45. Freshman Camryn Hidalgo did not compete after sustaining an injury in warm-ups. She will miss the rest of competition this week.
Men’s Diving Highlights
In the 3-meter diving prelims, Matt Casillas led all Yellow Jackets with a 10th-place finish, scoring 327.80 overall. Freshmen Henry Carman (248.85) and Jacob Kreider (243.50) rounded out Tech’s entry into the event, finishing 27th and 30th, respectively.
