Jackets Conclude Competition at NCAA Track & Field Championships

AUSTIN, Texas – Seniors Amandi Rhett and Brendon Mahoney tallied ninth and 10th-place finishes in the 200 and 1500 meters, respectively, to lead the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field teams on Saturday night at the NCAA Track and Field Championships. The women’s track and field team scored 14 points to finish in a tie for 15th place.

Rhett and Mahoney rounded out the competitors for Tech tonight. Rhett finished with a time 23.56 in the 200, while Mahoney posted a time of 3:47.62 in the 1500.

Sophomore Chaunte Howard captured her second national championship in the women’s high jump on Friday night with a clear of 6’4.00″. The Riverside, Calif., native is the first Tech athlete to win back-to-back national titles and is now a four-time All-American. She currently holds the third best mark by an American, 6’4.75″, and will compete in the U.S. Olympic trials in Sacramento, Calif., July 9-18.

The women’s 4×100-meter relay team of Dana Rogers, Ashlee Kidd, Andriane Lapsley and Rhett finished sixth with a time of 44.25 to earn All-America honors on Friday night. It is the first time in program history that a 4x100m relay team has earned such honors.

The finals of the NCAA Track and Field Championships will be broadcasted on CBS on Saturday, June 19, at 4 p.m.
