THE FLATS – Despite 12 hits and plenty of base runners, Georgia Tech baseball was unable to get the key hit with runners in scoring position and was unable to down Georgia State, 9-5, on Tuesday night at Mac Nease Baseball Park at Russ Chandler Stadium.
The Yellow Jackets (21-13) went an uncharacteristic 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position on the night, stymieing several scoring chances for Tech. Meanwhile, the Panthers (23-10) hit .417 with RISP to record the nine runs on the night.
At the plate, Tech had three multi-hit performances with Colin Hall leading the way with two hits and a home run. Tim Borden II also went yard for two runs, while Jadyn Jackson, Chandler Simpson and Andrew Jenkins all finished with two hits with Jackson driving in a run.
On the mound, Georgia Tech’s bullpen was solid as LHP Sam Crawford, RHP Dawson Brown and RHP Aeden Finateri allowed just one run over the final 5.2 innings of the game. Starter LHP Camron Hill (0-1) received the loss in his first collegiate start, allowing three runs on four hits in 3.0 innings.
Georgia State was led by Griffin Cheney, who had three hits and two home runs. RHP Dylan Matela (1-1) got the win, allowing four runs on eight hits in 5.0 innings.
The Yellow Jackets head back on the road for a brief trip, traveling to North Carolina on April 15-17. First pitches are scheduled for 6 p.m., 2 p.m., and 1 p.m., respectively, and will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra and WREK 91.1 FM.
