WEYMOUTH, Mass. –No. 37 Georgia Tech women’s tennis rounded out this four-match road swing with a 6-1 victory at Boston College Sunday afternoon. Tech, on a three-match win streak, improved to 6-4 overall and 3-1 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.
DOUBLES
It was a competitive fight for the doubles point, all coming down to court two after the Jackets and Eagles split the first two matches. Tech’s pair of Gia Cohen and Ruth Marsh finished first, quickly grabbing a 6-1 decision on court three. Opening on serve at 1-all against Sophia Edwards and Hailey Wilcox, the Jackets won the next five points to pocket the match, 6-1. But Boston College evened the field with a victory on the top court. Tech’s duo of Kylie Bilchev and Ava Hrastar stood on serve at 3-3 with Laura Lopez and Marice Aguiar before the Eagles won three straight games to take the match, 6-3.
The early match lead would be left on court two where Carol Lee and Kate Sharabura faced BC’s Plobrung Plipuech and Stephanie Sanchez. The Jackets came out with a 4-2 lead, but BC rallied back, winning three-straight games for a 5-4 advantage. Lee and Sharabura moved back on serve at 5-all, as the teams traded the next two games to force a tiebreak at 6-6. The Jackets proved victorious in the tiebreak, 7-4, to seal the early match lead for Georgia Tech.
