Jacket Cross Country Heads Out To UGA Invite

Sept. 2, 2010

ATLANTA – For the first meet of their season, the Georgia Tech cross country team will head 70 miles east of Atlanta to Athens where they will compete in the UGA Invite in the first of two-straight meets in their rivals’ town.

The first of the two meets, and their season opener will take place on Saturday, September 4 at the UGA Equestrian Complex. The men’s teams will begin things at 8 a.m. followed by the women’s race to start at 8:45 a.m. The course is classic cross country course with rolling terrain, good footing, and some challenging sections.

“We’ll line-up with a mixture of veterans and new-comers and have a good opportunity to see where we’re at on a course that we’ve run in the past,” said Head Coach Alan Drosky. “Training for the past two weeks has gone well and both the men’s and women’s teams are excited.”

Taking part in the meet are Georgia Tech, Georgia, Mississippi State, Tulane, Mercer, Chattahoochee Tech, Clark Atlanta and Young Harris.

“There will be a few decisions to make leading up to the meet dealing with some illness and nagging injuries,” continued Drosky, “but for the most part we intend to line-up with just about everyone available.”

The only exceptions come on the women’s side as two-time All-South Region honoree Mary Kate DuBard and top-runner Betsy Kim will be held out for the opening race, much like the 2009 season. Both had late starts to their summer training and we just want to give them a couple more weeks to prepare for our next meet.
