Hollings Selected by Houston Texans

July 10, 2003

Former Georgia Tech running back Tony Hollings was selected by the Houston Texans in the second round of the NFL’s supplemental draft, which was held Thursday.

Hollings, a defensive back in his first two years at Tech, moved to tailback for 2002 and was leading the nation in rushing after four games when he suffered a season-ending knee injury. The 5-11, 215-pounder from Jeffersonville, Ga., rushed for 633 yards and 11 touchdowns in his four games. He was academically ineligible for 2003, so he entered the supplemental draft.

“We’re all very pleased that things worked out this way for Tony,” said Tech head coach Chan Gailey. “Here’s a guy who wasn’t even a starter two years ago, and now he is selected in the second round. It’s a tribute to his hard work that he is physically ready.

“In visiting with [Texans Head Coach] Dom Capers, he said that he was impressed with Tony and thought he had a real chance to compete for a job.”
