Grant Leads Tech On Day One of Hurricane Invitational

Freshman Terri Ann Grant won the women’s high jump to lead the Georgia Tech track & field team on day one of the Hurricane Invitational Friday in Coral Gables, Fla.

Grant, a freshman from Kingston, Jamaica, won the even with a clearance of 5’10” in just the first collegiate outdoor meet of her career. She defeated the field by exactly three inches as the next competitor topped out at 5’7″.

Also performing well on the day was senior Alana Clooten, who placed third in the hammer throw with a personal-best distance of 185’5″. She beat her previous best mark by eight inches.

On the men’s side, freshman Mykhail Chambers finished third in the high jump, second amongst collegiate competitors, with a clearance of 6’10.75″ in his first ever collegiate outdoor meet.

The Hurricane Invitational continues Saturday with the men’s hammer throw at 11 a.m.
