Athens, Ga. – All-American and No. 3 seed Guillermo Gomez was declared co-champion in Division I Monday after reaching the finals of the Southern Intercollegiate Championships, and Dusan Miljevic advanced to the semifinals in Division II before all remaining matches were cancelled because of heavy rains and flooding.

In Division I singles, the senior Gomez from Alicante, Spain, defeated Vanderbilt’s Ryan Lipman, 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (3) in Monday’s quarterfinals, and eliminated Duke’s Henrique Cunha, 6-2, 6-3. Georgia’s Javier Garrapiz defeated teammate Nate Schnugg, 6-4, 6-2. The championship match was cancelled and Gomez and Garrapiz were declared co-champions.
There was no champion in Division II singles, where Miljevic eliminated Georgia State’s Martin Shishkov, 6-3, 7-5, and had advanced to the semifinals because both quarterfinal competitors who would have faced him withdrew. Senior Austin Roebuck (Athens, Ga.), who had advanced to the round of 16 with a win over East Tennessee State’s Daniel Isaza late Sunday night, was defeated Monday, 5-7, 7-5, 1-0 (7) by Georgia State’s Jackson Moore. Junior Miguel Muguruza (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) lost to Vanderbilt’s Charlie Jones, 6-3, 6-3.
