Greensboro, N.C. – James White’s 5-under-par67 led three Georgia Tech players shooting under-par rounds, and the Yellow Jackets shot a 9-under-par team score of 279 Sunday in a come-from-behind effort to win the UNCG Bridgestone Golf Collegiate.

Tech began the day four shots behind Michigan in the team race, but got the 67 from White, a 69 from Chesson Hadley, a 71 from Kyle Scott and a 72 from John-Tyler Griffin in surging to a 7-stroke victory over Virginia. The Yellow Jackets’ tournament total of 843 (21-under-par) beat the previous 54-hole record of 860 by 17 shots.

“We did a nice job of putting it together today and finishing our fall with a flourish,” said Tech head coach Bruce Heppler. “James played a great round, and this is what can happen when everyone plays like they can.”

Virginia shot 7-under 281 on the final day to complete 54 holes in 14-under-par 850. The Wolverines, the 36-hole leaders, shot 293 and fell back to third place at 11-under-par 853. Augusta State was fourth at 10-under 854, followed by Tennessee at 3-under 861 and North Carolina at even-par 864.

After a bogey at the par-5 fourth hole of the Forest Oaks Country Club, White went on a birdie binge, recording six in an eight-hole stretch between Nos. 6 and 13, and the sophomore from Acworth, Ga., went on to post his best round of the fall.

Hadley, a senior from Raleigh, N.C., went 1-over on his first nine, then birdied four holes on the back for his first sub-70 round this fall. Scott, a junior from Johannesburg, South Africa, posted his fourth par-or-better round of the fall.

Griffin, a junior from Wilson, N.C., remained at 8-under-par for the tournament with his 72 Sunday, and tied for fourth place, three strokes behind Virginia’s Amory Davis, who carded a 67 Sunday to complete 54 holes in 11-under-par 205. Scott finished ninth along at 6-under-par 210, while Hadley tied for 12th at 4-under 212, and White was 14th at 3-under 213.
