Waikoloa, Hawaii – Georgia Tech’s Roberto Castro and Mike Barbosa each fired a five-under-par 67 on Thursday, and No. 2 Yellow Jackets posted a 16-under-par score of 272 and moved up to fourth place after two rounds of the Taylor Made/Waikoloa Intercollegiate.
Tech is 11 shots behind No. 3-ranked Oklahoma State heading into the final 18 holes on Friday. The Cowboys have a 41-under-par score of 535 through 36 holes, eight shots ahead of Washington (543).
With light winds blowing throughout the Waikoloa Village Golf Course, scores remained low as OSU’s Alex Noren shot a 65 for a two-day 132 and third place. Ryan Posey was at 131 (65-66) while tournament leader Tyler Leon is at 130 (64-66).
Castro (68-67), a sophomore from Alpharetta, Ga., is five shots behind Leon with a nine-under-par total of 135, and Thompson (68-69), a senior from Coral Springs, Fla., is another two strokes back at seven-under-par 137. Senior Chan Song (69-69) is at six-under 138, and sophomore Kevin Larsen (69-71) is at four-under 140. Barbosa, who shot 75 on Wednesday, is at two-under-par 142.
