THE FLATS – Georgia Tech junior Tyaunna Marshall was selected to the ACC All-Defensive Team by the conference’s head coaches, league commissioner John Swofford announced Wednesday.
Marshall is second on the Yellow Jackets with 73 steals in all games and led Tech with 49 steals in ACC games. She has helped Tech rank third in the ACC in steals with 11.0 per game. Marshall’s 2.5 steals per game in all games ranks fourth and her 2.7 steals per game in conference games ranks second.
“Ty Marshall is the best defensive guard in the ACC,” head coach MaChelle Joseph said. “She is very deserving to be named to the ACC All-Defensive Team. She anchors our defense and has won games for us on the defensive end.”
Marshall has recorded at least three steals in 14 games this season. She tallied four steals against Marquette on Nov. 27 when Georgia Tech set the program’s single-game record for steals in a game with 27.
She is the fifth different Yellow Jacket to earn ACC All-Defensive Team honors and the first since Alex Montgomery was selected to the team in 2011. Marshall was already named All-ACC First Team this year after earning All-ACC Second Team honors last season, and All-ACC Third Team and ACC All-Freshman Team accolades in 2011.
Tech will face the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in the first round of the 2013 ACC Tournament on Thursday at the Greensboro (N.C.) Coliseum. The contest will tip-off at 6 p.m. and be aired on the ACC’s Regional Sports Networks. The winner will face second-seeded Maryland at 6 p.m. Friday, March 8, on the ACC’s Regional Sports Networks.
