PHILADELPHIA – The Georgia Tech men’s distance medley team and the women’s shuttle hurdle squad each posted fourth-place finishes, as the Jackets’ men and women’s track and field teams enjoyed a second solid day of competition Friday at the 108th Penn Relays at Franklin Field.
The men’s DMR team of sophomores Brendon Mahoney, Tim Johnson and Barton Crist and senior Joe Stegall posted a season-best time of 9:42.21 to finish fourth. Arkansas took first in the event with a time of 9:31.21.
The women’s shuttle hurdle relay placed fourth in a time of 55.65. The team consisted of seniors Alisha McClinton, Mishanta Reyes, Tosan Osaigbovo and sophomore Melanie Waits. South Carolina won the event in 53.96.
McClinton had a busy day, as she also competed in the 100-meter hurdles, placing third in heat two with a time of 13.54. Her mark was good enough to advance her to Saturday’s championship, which is slated to run at 3:50 p.m. She will race in lane two.
Sophomore Amandi Rhett also competed individually, placing fifth in heat two of the women’s 100 meters. She clocked a time of 11.84.
The only other Yellow Jacket in action Friday was sophomore Michael Massey, who earned a tie for seventh place in the high jump, as he cleared 6’07.50″.
McClinton will be the only Jacket competing Saturday. However, several of Tech’s top field event athletes will compete Sunday at the University of Tennessee’s Knoxville Invitational.
