Georgia Tech's Falconi Again Named ACC Women's Tennis Player of the Week

March 2, 2010

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Tech sophomore Irina Falconi has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week after posting behind three straight-set singles wins over players ranked among the nation’s top 25. It marks the third time this season the Jupiter, Fla., native has received or shared the honor.

The top-ranked Falconi opened the week with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Clemson’s 18th-ranked Josipa Bek in last Wednesday’s ACC match. Over the weekend, Falconi defeated No. 23 Kristy Frilling of Notre Dame (by a 6-0, 6-2 score), and No. 12 Maria Mosolova of Northwestern (6-4, 6-4) on consecutive days. Falconi is 10-1 in singles during the dual-match season, with six victories coming against nationally-ranked opponents.

Falconi also teamed with junior Sasha Krupina for three-straight doubles wins at the top spot in the lineup.

The Yellow Jackets will return home on Saturday, March 13 when they host North Texas. The match at the Bill Moore Tennis Center is scheduled noon.
