Georgia Tech Volleyball Ranked 20th in CSTV/AVCA Preseason Coaches Poll

Aug. 8, 2005

The Georgia Tech volleyball team begins the 2005 season ranked 20th in the CSTV/AVCA Coaches Preseason Poll released on Monday. The Yellow Jackets, which return four starters to a team which finished the 2004 season with a 27-7 record and an appearance in the NCAA Region Semifinals, received 304 votes. Nebraska is atop the poll, receiving 1,463 votes, just 39 votes ahead of Washington.

“We’re glad to start off the season ranked again this year,” said head coach Bond Shymansky, who has led Tech to a preseason ranking in each of his years at the helm of the Jackets. “It shows that our program has come a long way in a short time and we’re glad that coaches around the country respect our team and the accomplishments of the past. Now we are looking forward to the future and making sure we maintain that level of success.”

This marks the fifth time in the program’s history that Georgia Tech has earned a preseason ranking. In 1996 the Yellow Jackets opened the season ranked No. 16, in 2001 they were ranked No. 25 while in 2003 and 2004 they began the year ranked No. 12.

The Yellow Jackets open the season against Northwestern and No. 17 Arizona in University of Arizona Tournament held in Tucson, Ariz. on Sept. 2.
