Georgia Tech Sweeps Rice 7-0

ATLANTA – Kelly Anderson won at No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles to lead fifth-ranked Georgia Tech to a 7-0 win over No. 58 Rice.

Tech took the doubles point by claiming victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. The 11th ranked duo Kristi of Miller and Lyndsay Shosho won their match 8-4 at No. 1 over Rice’s Alanna Rodgers and Blair DiSesa while Whitney McCray and Kelly Anderson won at No. 2 by a score of 8-3 against the Owls’ Medeja Egic and Kimberely Patenaude to clinch the point for the Jackets. Rice’s No. 3 team of Tiffany Lee and Christine Dao won the final doubles match over Tech’s Alison Silverio and Kacie Anson 8-7 (7).

In singles action, Anderson , ranked 60th in the nation, easily defeated Lee 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 4 spot to give Tech a 2-0 lead in the match. McCray then won 6-1, 6-2 over Egic, and Christy Striplin clinched the match for Tech with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Patenaude.

Tech finished off the sweep with victories at the top three singles spots. Silverio won 6-0, 6-4 over Rodgers at No. 3, sixth-ranked Miller defeated DiSesa 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1, and 74th ranked Shosho finished off the Owls with a 6-3, 6-3 win against Dao in the No. 2 match.

The Jackets will be back in action on Saturday as they host the 18th ranked Georgia Bulldogs at 12 p.m.
