THE FLATS – Five former Yellow Jackets were in the field last weekend as the PGA Tour moved to Florida for The Honda Classic, with Stewart Cink and Ollie Schniederjans surviving to play the weekend … The Web.com Tour continues its month-long hiatus and resumes next week in Mexico … Larry Mize back in action on Champions Tour after a week break … This and more in this week’s Georgia Tech #ProJackets Report.
Cink, who ranks No. 88 in FedEx Cup points, remained steady over four days at PGA National and its famed Bear Trap closing holes, but was not able to break par and tied for 46th. The same was true for Schniederjans, who closed with his best round of the weekend at even-par 70 but tied for 64th. He ranked 34th in FedEx Cup points.
Everyone except Matt Kuchar, who did not play the Honda, is off this week as many of the world’s best players converge in Mexico City for the first World Golf Championships event – the Mexico Championship – takes place. The seven-time champion is 18th in the Official World Golf Ranking.
The regular Tour schedule resumes next week with the Valspar Championship, to which current Tech sophomore Tyler Strafaci has an exemption earned by winning the collegiate event of the same name last spring. Larry Mize is back in action with the PGA Tour Champions this week at the Cologuard Classic in Tucson, Ariz.
