Georgia Tech #ProJackets Football

THE FLATS  — Running back Jordan Mason leads the #ProJackets Report ahead of Week 15 after breaking onto the scene in San Francisco in recent weeks and playing in Thursday Night Football on Dec. 15 against Seattle.

After not seeing the field for several weeks, Mason emerged on Nov. 21 with four carries for 14 yards in the 49ers’ 38-10 win over Arizona. His role continued to grow following that performance, turning in five carries for 25 yards in the win over New Orleans. Maintaining trajectory, Mason has now turned in back-to-back 50-yard rushing games with 51 yards on eight carries in the win over Miami and a season-best 11 carries for 56 yards in the win over Tampa.

Over the past three games, Mason is third in the league among running backs in yards per carry with 5.5 (min. 20 carries). He’s also eighth among running backs with 10-yard runs with five during that timeframe.

San Francisco has now rattled off six-straight wins to sit 9-4 on the season and atop the NFC West.

Elsewhere around the league, kicker Harrison Butker’s Chiefs have worked to a 10-3 record to be atop the AFC West. In last week’s 34-28 win over Denver, Butker was 2-for-2 on field goals and 4-for-4 on PATs.

Defensive back Tariq Carpenter continued to take advantage of his opportunities of late, recording a tackle in his fourth-straight game on Dec. 4 as Green Bay defeated the Bears 28-19 before entering their bye.

Punter Pressley Harvin III boomed three punts for 111 yards in the Steelers’ 16-14 loss to Baltimore and defensive end Adam Gotsis recorded his sixth QB hit on the season in 22 defensive snaps and 25 special teams snaps.

Competitive Drive Initiative

In a unified endeavor, Georgia Tech, the Georgia Tech Foundation, Georgia Tech athletics and the Alexander-Tharpe Fund have come together to accelerate funding for student-athlete scholarships with the launch of the Competitive Drive Initiative. The initiative met its initial fundraising goal of $2.5 million in less than six weeks and has extended its target to $3.5 million raised by Dec. 31. Any new gift to the A-T Fund’s Athletic Scholarship Fund made through Dec. 31 will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Georgia Tech Foundation, meaning that if the $3.5 million fundraising goal is met, the matching gift would result in a $7 million impact for Georgia Tech athletics.
