The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team, ranked 28th in the latest ITA poll with an 14-9 overall record, faces No. 39 Vanderbilt in the first round of the NCAA Regional. The Jackets will begin play Saturday at 2 p.m. ET at the Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Florida. Prior to Tech’s match, third-seeded Florida will face UCF at 11 a.m.
The first-round winners will then face each other Sunday at 12 p.m. ET to determine which team will advance to the NCAA Championship round which will be held in College Station, Texas.
After earning an at-large bid, the Jackets have now been selected five consecutive years to postseason play, and head coach Kenny Thorne has led his teams to the tournament in six of the seven years that he’s been at the helm of the program.
“I feel great about where we are as a team right now,” said Thorne “We just finished up with finals and have been able this week to get a lot of practices in and just concentrate on tennis. After nearly three weeks of rest, our guys are excited to have a chance to play again and really look forward to doing something in this year’s tournament. Vanderbilt is a great team, but we match up well against them so I’m sure it’s going to be a good match.”
